I just finished sketching the second part of the Xanadu skirt Collection that represents the music of ELO in the movie Xanadu.
I was just talking on Skype to my friend Tired Old Queen and I was telling him that with this one I have just out-gayed Rudy Galindo skating to "Over The Raibow" wrapped in the Pride flag...
But seriously? I have been like this MY WHOLE life...LOL
The old appartment manager here at my complex was a really cool lesbian lady and she used to say : " Milla I love you, but you are A F-G!!!"
But the whole thing with this assignment was rendering different textures and prints of fabrics.
The parameters were pretty though. We could not do short skirts. We could not do straight or tube skirts . We had to have a certain amount of figures in each pose. And the fabrics had to look exactly like our samples. We had to have an animal print other than leopard, a plaid and a tweed, a shiny fabric , a nap and a sheer...
So here are the skirts from the first part of the Xanadu Collection
This is my pick for velvet ( a deep aubergine/purple) , chiffon ( also a deep violet) and my satin ( a fushia/lilac)...
For these three I did evening/cocktail skirts based on lines from the deco period.
This is what I did for the second part of the assignment for which I did day/clubbing skirts based on disco era and 80’s lines...
I choose herringbone tweed with a leather yoke and inset, a zebra assimetrical skirt, and a madras plaid skirt with a triangular hem with a corset yoke and safety pins in the back... I mean I had never seen a long herringbone or madras plaid skirt done "edgy"...
So I REALLY had to make it work...
As you can see, I gave the girls punk hairstyles: a mohawk, a "flock of seagulls" and a Joan Jett with blue highlights.
I gave the girl who is turned around a tattoo on her shoulder and since she finishes the collection I gave her an off the shoulder "Xanadu" t-shirt.
I also gave them all Christian Louboutin shoes.
The girl in the tweed with the mohaw’s midriff-baring top is held toghether with a gold cock ring. Edgy enough?
I think it is really cohesive and fun and innovative as a whole...
I hope you like it and my teacher does too...

I think you followed the assignment very well. I could definitely identify the different fabrics very easily even before you listed what they were, and I think you definitely "made it work" given the constraints. Six long skirt looks and making them all look different is really impressive. I really adore the tweed.
Thank you!
You are so kind :-)
I worked very hard on those...
I added pink lining to the zebra mddle one...
I also wanted to demostrate range in my design ( as in I can do elegant, femenine things as well as "edgy" contemporary clothing) and focus on sexy clothes that would look beautiful and appropriate but at the same time very daring, modern and forward on women of any size and over the age of 30.
Sexy Rock and Roll Mamas is kind of my niche...LOL
It's a shame the photos got cutoff on this blog...
The other two looks that are missing ( the satin and the madras) turned out well too I think...
Hugs,
Milla
Naw, I can see 'em. If you right-click on the image and choose "View Image" from the list you can view the whole picture, so I saw all six looks. I really like 'em... hope the teacher does too!
Thank you!
So far so good...
She did not rip me up too bad on the critique and she liked the tweed... Just a little on the grey in the plaid skirt and the folds...
Now I have to see my grade and what she objects to...
